For perhaps the first time in my life I am truly ready for winter’s departure. Normally I’m too in love with winter to let her go. And what a winter this has been, I mean Lake Linda froze and we played hockey….HOCKEY! So here are a few things I’ll miss about winter:
the light, cold and clear, brilliant and chilling
snow
scarves
leather gloves
cold nights, fires, chili, coffee
feeling somewhat like some great adventurer just because I’m driving in a blizzard, honestly, when do you ever get to feel like Marco Polo?
Yet for all this I’m ready for spring. The warmth makes me feel like I’m shedding some sort of shell. Some sort of weight. I can take a breath.
Oh, and each warm day is one day closer to a bright green spring wedding…

This morning getting up, taking a shower, brushing my teeth, letting Brinkles out, walking through the woods….it’s funny how far your mind can be from where you are. I don’t think I gave any of those things more than a few brian cells worth of consciousness. Yet inside my head thoughts swirled like wind in a Kansas thunderstorm. Past, present, and future all fighting for the spotlight. Now let me really think….God is good. I am alive. God is good. I am alive. GOD IS GOOD! I AM ALIVE!

Thank you for your attention to detail God, the mist in the snow was such a nice touch.
This is a warp-speed-winter. I am wrestling life like a 12 foot ‘gator, I think I’m going to stick my thumbs in it’s eyes.

So today I really do have something fairly interesting to share with the world, and that, of course, would be that MK and I are engaged! On thursday I took her up to Friendship field off the Blue Ridge and we spent a nice (very very cold) romantic time frolicking in the field.
Meanwhile, back at Thunder Hill, various very good friends of mine where preparing for our arrival…
As the sun set and the temperature dropped I stalled for time as she became more and more antsy (and cold). Finally I got the text I was waiting for and nonchalantly suggested walking back to the car. As we rounded the bend to Thunder Hill, before us the hills crowning apple tree was hung with flickering lanterns swaying in the stiff wind. There the question was asked, and the answer was yes. The moment I slipped the ring on her finger was a moment I will never forget.
From there we went to the an amazingly special after party where we were roasted by our incredibly special friends and left with love tanks full.
So there you have it bachelorhood is on it’s way out, married life here I come!
